We be jammin’
June 11, 2009
har har. here is a photo journal of yesterday’s jam-making marathon:

Thanks to my grocery guy, (yes, i seem to have a rapport with one of the local grocers) i got a flat of berries, some amazing organic apricots (totally by chance, rather than choice btw), lemons, and rhubarb.

Bought some jars at the local hardware store (they’re great, too; they have everything!)

Then commenced the great 5 hour process of making jam. First, an apricot ginger concoction (sans pectin):
oh, great recipe here
Then, a strawberry rhubarb combo (again, without pectin)

In jars, the apricot ginger looked like this:

and the stove, after all that jammy goodness, looked like this:

uh, note to self. BUY PROPER POTS FOR JAM MAKING! DO NOT RELY ON ONE SMALL POT TO DO ALL THE WORK.
Question o’ the day: what is your favourite topping for toast?
butter and marmite. Mmmm…….. heaven
my Nana’s strawberry freezer jam.
I will assume you are running through your mind tonight the happening three years ago:) please give Edmund a great big hug from all of us at the McInnes household and we will give you a call in the AM to do some singing (pre-warning!)
A good night and morning of memories to you my friend
I recognize the stove photo. Even with proper pots, it seems that sticky messes can’t be avoided when making jam. Focus on the yummy results!
I’m sorry to say (for those of you living in nut-free environments) that Nutella is my favourite toast topping, when I and my weight-conscience allow it. Most of the time I go with natural peanut butter. Grandma Shaun’s freezer jam is pretty good, too (and that’s saying a lot from a girl who dislikes all jams, jellies and preserves).
We’ve been collecting jars for the better part of a year, so I’d better get on that strawberry jam-making if we’re going to do it ourselves this year!
peanut butter and jam.
