Today was “Crazy Hat and Hair Day” at Agatha’s school.  I don’t think this post needs anymore intro than that:

and, just because he always insists on it:

I would post other photos here as well–pumpkin carving, Aurora, etc…but i lost a whole set of photos off my camera.  Oh, the pitfalls of a digital age (and being too quick to pull cables from cameras.  dammit.)

Hope you all have a fun/safe/happy hallowe’en.

I wonder how many times that’s been used as a blog post title.  anyhoo, if Aurora still needs slippers for Oz, then I’ve got them:

I’ll try for a better photo or two tomorrow.  The colour here doesn’t represent the full ruby-ness of them.  I hope they fit.

As opposed to costume design, and critical analysis, for example.  If only I could find it as easy to, I don’t know, design water pumps or theorize economic infrastructure, rather than obsessively make largely decorative items (and this rather haphazardly).  And, let’s save the discussion of my analytical abilities for another day.  Instead, I’m dying to share these photos of the newly completed costumes with you.  If you don’t know anything about Nintendo’s Mario and co., then they won’t mean much, I’m afraid.  I think you’ll still find them comical, however.  Drum roll, please:

So, there you have it.  I should mention that the peach costume has been in the works for awhile (shout out to Lisa for giving us the bubblegum pink satin).  The Toad costume was a mere idea until today, when we (jaegen, agatha and i) consulted the interwebs and dared to dream this little number into existence.  (i’m rather proud of the little vest, actually).  And no, Edmund will not be wearing just a diaper for hallowe’en, however authentic it may be….

Question o’ the Day:  What is your favourite costume memory?  Yours, or someone else’s?  a malfunction?  a surprise success?

I dress them up like this:

And, those are all the photos i managed to take of our “Peter Pan” party yesterday.  The rest was too chaotic to keep track of….we did have fun, though.

Really, i’m not.  whether it’s just because i like to maintain the illusion of being different from the herd, or whether i do, in fact, like a return to routine, i nevertheless don’t usually mind the MondayMorningFeeling.  but today, sitting here with a sore throat and staring out into the twilight zone of vancouver weather (gloomy grey overcast that foretells of aught but wind and driving rain), i’m not so keen on this Monday in particular. (apparently i’m keen, however, on would-be run on sentences.  and i’m lovin’ that “aught”. ps btw)

howze about youze?  what are you up to this monday morning?  anything so fun and exciting that it overcomes the monday morning blahs?  or, should we just agree to stay in, surf the interwebs and drink copious amounts of hot liquid?  sounds like a plan.  consider these my questions o’ the day, and consider me just too tired to rewrite them as questions.

And now, a spectacularly lame monday haiku:

grey drizzle fog mist

too much work to do today?

stay in.  eat chocolate.

please rewrite this last offering….I LOVE ME THE HAIKUS.  (and jaason, i’m talking to you too, my friend.  btw, your last one was so fantastic, it kept others from writing their own, feeling that you’d summed it all up.  what economy of usage, my brother.)

But that doesn’t mean i can’t blame someone else for my time wasting.  vanessa sent me this link this morning (http://www.photofunia.com).  behold the hilarity:

and this, my friends, is just the tip of the proverbial photofun iceberg.  enjoy.

Hazy Fall Afternoon

October 15, 2008

Such as it is today.  though i would still trade it for a SoCal fall afternoon (my heart having been left behind there to bask in the sun), it is, nonetheless, a lovely Vancouver afternoon.  Perfect for a brisk walk, a bowl of soup, a good book, and, if one is supremely fortunate, a nap in a sunny patch on the sofa.

alas, these are not things that i have lined up for this afternoon.  instead, i must decide which of too many projects and chores to do, knowing that i will inevitably suffer a vague frustration (ennui?) as i accomplish much less, in the end, than i would like.

Jenn’s Afternoon Docket:

prep bread maker for fresh french bread (to accompany italian sausage alfredo and green salad)

crochet birthday gift for small child?

read Catch 22 for sunday’s book club (with absolutely NO HOPE of finishing in time)

work on agatha’s hallowe’en costume (did i mention that she’s set on being Princess Peach?  complete with satin dress and wig and….)

finish little knit vest for edmundo…my first knit design for him (think deconstructed fisherman’s pullover sans sleeves.  okay, it’s better than that sounds.  i’ll post photos later.)

whip cream (to accompany pumpkin and apple pies for the knitting ladies arrival this evening)

buy phone card to call dear friend with new babe who lives in Greece (?)

bathe children

read chapter book to children

make dinner

eat something?????

and here i am, procrastinating.  boring all of you with the machinations of domestic life.  ah well.  here’s hoping that a quick comparison with my life makes you feel better about your own :)

Question o’ the Day:  What is your favourite kind of soup?  Or, if you wish life were in fact soupless, what is your favourite fall comfort food?

to be fair, it takes a fair bit of work to post photos.  rather than bore you with all the minute details, i thought i’d just post a gallery of images from our trip.  just click on an image to see a larger version.  hope you like.
